December Shop Update 2025 December 15 2025, 0 Comments

Thank you to everyone who came to the Open Studio last Saturday despite the awful weather. Cake was eater, yarn was squished and lots of chatting happened and it was lovely. If you missed it and would like to check out Sharon's self striping yarns and other items do go to her website at Dragon Hill Studio

I dyed up 3 new colourways inspired by British Birds, some festive sock sets and some Lustrous, plus there are more colourways of Flockly DK and a collaboration set of yarn and pattern for Sharon's Buttons Up! handwarmers.

After the Open Studio I have had a little rearrangement of the studio as I am hoping to run more workshops in the new year. More info next week but if there is anything in particular you would like to see do let me know.

Outside of work recently my kids have both been doing mock exams which seem to have been going well but we are all looking forward to the Christmas break!

If you want to order for delivery before Christmas the last UK order date is 18th December for posting on the 19th Tracked 48.

All the yarn is on line already if you want to jump straight to the preview or read on for more info on the new colourways and other info.

British Birds Colourways

While researching for one of the new clubs for next year based on British Wildlife, more of that to come next week, I came across 3 birds I wanted to try to replicate in dye. I haven't decided if they will be added to the repeatable list yet so grab them while you can.

Goldfinch

First one is Goldfinch, one of my favourite little birds to spot this time of year using their little beaks to tease seeds out of seedheads or bird feeders. This yarn has a golden buff base colour with speckles of red, yellow and black. I hope this will be an interesting neutral colourway to pair with others or just on its own with the interest of the brighter speckles.

I have dyed all the new colourways on Crush, Crush DK and Selkino to give a range of options and so the differences of the different bases can be seen. The colour is strongest on the Crush DK for all colourways and palest on the Selkino due to the silk content.

Woodpecker

The second colourway is the Green Woodpecker which is often seen on the ground eating ants rather than pecking trees like its black and white cousins. It is also know as a Yaffle possibly due to its distinctive laughing call and is a link to one of my favourite childhood stories with Professor Yaffle from Bagpuss.

The colourway draws from the moss green of the body and the bright red head with black speckles to give a rather festive yarn. The red on the Selkino has come out much more prominent than on the other bases.

Jay

The final colourway is my favourite and is one I have planning on trying for a little while. Inspired by the Jay, Eurasian in particular, which is member of the crow family and known for its intelligence, bright colours and loud screech call. It can also mimic other birds calls particular birds of prey such as the Buzzard or Goshawk. Its found in woodlands and hoards acorns for the winter spreading oak trees as they do so.

Its pink brown body has distinctive bright blue flashes and black patches which makes an interesting colourway.

Flockly DK

There are 2 more colourways of Flockly DK, Dodo Feathers and Enchanted Forest, plus bundles of Mellow Fruitfulness and Sharon's Buttons Up! pattern for crochet handwarmers which would make a great Christmas present. If you would like a set with a different colourway in do let me know.

Lustrous

I dyed these three colours of Lustrous while thinking ahead to Christmas and dreaming of some warmer days next year, so I have named them suitably. There is a favourite Christmas colourway Jolly Holly, the warm Summer Holiday and the wishful Lavender Dreams!

 Christmas Sock Sets

I have been asked about whether I was dyeing any specific yarn sets or bundles for this Christmas as I haven't done an advent again this year and it was suggested sock sets would be popular so here are two, inspired by next years club themes. Perfect for a gift for a sock knitter or as a post Christmas cast on for yourself. Are you a earthy naturals type of person or a bold and bright one?

Robin

A festive favourite, the Robin is a small song bird found widely across Europe and as far east as western Siberia and south as north Africa. Paired with a forest green mini this gives 120g of sock yarn for a pattern of your choice.

New Year's Eve

For socks ready to party the night away New Year's Eve is a bright colourway with an even brighter pink contrast mini! The main skein has a pale blue background with multi coloured speckles. Dyed using some UV reactive dyes this will stand out at a party!
